The Brunswick Grand Commandery continues its mission under the long-established principles of sovereignty in abeyance: the lawful maintenance of sovereign authority and Christian jurisdiction in circumstances where territory is administered externally, yet legitimate rights persist without renunciation.
This doctrine is recognized in international law and historical precedent through examples such as the Holy See (1870-1929), the Baltic States under Soviet occupation, and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. In similar manner, the Templar religious-military mandate and the Ducal sovereignty of the House of Wolfenbüttel-Brunswick continue intact through protest, lawful succession, and unbroken ecclesiastical commission.
The Commandery operates under the fons honorum of the de jure Ducal House of Wolfenbüttel-Brunswick, whose sovereign rights have never been legally extinguished. Through this authority, charters, knightly commissions, and ecclesiastical protection are conferred according to historic Christian and chivalric norms.
